  • "'Shut it all down now!!!' Sure, no problem."

So I worked at a resturant/movie theater as a dishwasher that was open really really late sometimes. Most nights that I closed I had to wait to turn off, drain and clean out the dish machine because it took a little for the busser to collect every dish from every theater. This guy was buddy buddy with management
  • and treated me and other dishies as below him. More often then not I would be told "this should be the last of it" by someone bringing dishes late, but it was never true. I got in the habit of asking if they're sure or if should wait.
  • Well this particular night he wasn't feeling very patient, and when I asked if that was really everything, he cut me off saying "shut it down NOW!" before quickly leaving the kitchen. It seemed too early in my opinion but hey, he seemed quite agitated and I wanted
  • to go home. So I drained the machine and cleaned it out, then shut down the rest of the dish pit. By the time I was done and the manager was checking me out, I see him meekly bagging up 2 full bus tubs of dishes.
  • Dude never even made eye contact with me again while I worked there.

  • CoderJoe1 The Dishie is a God among men. What was he thinking? Neither-Brain-2599 Never mess with the dishwasher. I always slid food and drink that way. Makes everyone's life more better.
  • tcollins317 When I was a teen, I worked at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor (think Applebees with a ton of ice cream desserts). I was a dishwasher. We had a speedy system where we rinsed off the dishes, racked them, then sent them on a conveyor that took them through the dishwasher unaided. On Fri & Sat nights, it would get so buy that both of us would not catch up until 2 hours after the restaurant closed. We'd literally get a ton of dishes.
  • One Sat, I didn't feel like showing up, but felt that wouldn't be cool to my coworker, so I went in. That's when the A mgr tells me that my coworker called in sick, and I would have to do it alone. Oh sh. And then he tells me that the dishwashing machine was broken and all the dishes had to washed by hand in the sink. I was thinking that I would still be washing dishes by sunrise, so I told my A mgr that I quit (already had a second job). I later hear that the A mgr had to do them himself.

  • mgoose811 Dishes in a restaurant = IT in an office. You treat them well, give treats, help when you can, PERIOD. Without them, the location ceases to function.
  • wykkedfaery33 Oh man, the bartenders at my job were the worst about last minute dishes. My solution? Anything brought back after the kitchen was shut down and cleaned got chucked straight into the TINY FOH three compartment sink meant for their glassware. Your problem now,
